Redact SSNs, account numbers and IDs
The documents you get asked to share print far more identifying detail than anyone needs to see. Drag over what has to disappear and you are done. Give it one visual check before you save.

When you need it
- Bank statement for a landlord Leave the last 4 digits of the account number and cover the rest, plus your home address and transactions that prove nothing.
- Pay stub for a loan application Cover all but the last 4 digits of your SSN, plus your employee ID. Keep the employer name and the amounts the lender asked for.
- Passport copy for a visa agent Cover the passport number and the two machine-readable lines at the bottom unless the agency needs them to file the booking.
- Plate or face in a photo Light blur can be reversed. Use a heavy mosaic or a solid box on anything made of digits.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to cover the whole SSN?
Cover the first five digits and leave the last four. That is the rule for US federal court filings under FRCP 5.2, and most landlords, lenders and HR departments ask for the same thing.
Can a mosaic be reversed?
Large blocks are hard to reverse, but not impossible. Use a solid black box when it really matters.
Are the numbers still there underneath?
No. Saving as an image bakes the boxes into the pixels, so there is no text layer left to select, copy or search.
